Twice each year, the New York Board of Bar Examiners administers the New York State Bar Exam, which is given on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July.
2017 New York Bar Exam Dates
2017: February 21-22; and July 25-26.
2018 New York Bar Exam Dates
2018: February 27-28; and July 24-25.
2019 New York Bar Exam Dates
2019: February 26-27; and July 30-31.
2020 New York Bar Exam Dates
2020: February 25-26; and July 28-29.
In order to take the New York bar exam in either February or July, an applicant must file an application within certain dates. According to past practice, it is likely that an applicant would have to file their application:
- by the end of November for each February exam; or
- by the end of April for each July.
Contact the examiners for the exact deadline for each exam. If you do not file an application by the deadline, then you cannot take the New York bar exam because late filing is not allowed.
Filing Dates for Re-Applicants
If an applicant takes and fails the New York bar exam, and wants to take the New York bar exam on its next date, then the deadline for reapplication is the latter of: 1) the then-applicable filing date deadline; or 2) 14 days from the date of release of the New York bar exam results.
